Chromite is composed of chromium, iron and oxygen (chemical formula FeCr2O4). It is an oxide mineral belonging to the spinel group.
Chromite sand is used in the foundry industry as a moulding sand, as a pigment in ceramic glazes and container glass, and as an additive in brake lining applications.
